Compared with the control group, groups exposed to an age progression experienced more negative affect, and individuals in the self-aged condition reported greater aging anxiety. College students were randomly assigned to one of three conditions: self-aged simulation, stranger-aged simulation, or a control group. This experiment tests the effect of an old-age progression simulation on young adults’ ( N = 139) reported aging anxiety and perceptions about older adults as a social group.
